At Dermalife, we respect your facial expressions. We love to see real, beautiful smiles. By integrating technique + cutting-edge dermal filler technology, we preserve these. By supporting the skin in its every movement, Dermalife aims to maintain the softness and vitality of your expressions.
As we age we experience facial volume loss, which refers to the slowdown in the production of natural substances like collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid that give us our youthful features. Dermal fillers are used to combat this volume loss.
How do dermal fillers work?
Skin is composed of several layers, including the dermis layer. The dermis becomes thinner as we age, and wrinkles develop as volume is lost. Dermal fillers plump up overlying skin and replace and enhance volume through injecting volumising substances into the dermis.
What are dermal fillers made of?
Dermal fillers can be separated into absorbable and non-absorbable, and are administered based on the body’s capacity to break down the gel.
No two cases are the same, and different clients require different dermal filler treatments. This is why we offer a range of solutions that vary in cost, longevity and mode of action, ensuring that all needs are covered.
Temporary Absorbable Fillers
Dermal fillers are commonly made from proteins that are naturally-occurring in human skin and body. The protein possesses exceptional water-binding properties, allowing the filler to act essentially like a sponge that draws in water and plumps up the skin. The fillers are used to replace the volume loss that occurs as we age, and improve skin hydration and quality. Dermal fillers are synthetically produced and are not derived from animals. They can be injected into most areas of the face, including lips, cheeks, tear troughs, frown lines, nasolabial folds (smile lines) and oral commissures (down turning of the mouth).
Are there any reasons why I can’t have dermal fillers?
Similar to most cosmetic procedures, dermal fillers are not suitable for women who are currently pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive. The same goes for people with a known sensitivity to the active ingredients in the desired filler, as well as those with certain autoimmune conditions. To determine your suitability, your past and present medical history, as well as your past cosmetic history, will be assessed by your injector.
